The name “Muxu” evokes the first light of morning: like a gentle beam, we want to help teachers and parents shine a light on the experiments in physics, chemistry and biology textbooks — and do them, hands-on, together with their kids.

Who we are

An experiment site written for middle school science teachers and parents.

MUXU LAB focuses on the three lab sciences of middle school: physics, chemistry and biology. We take the experiments these courses commonly cover and rewrite them as hands-on guides with clear materials lists, step-by-step procedures, observation notes and explanations of the underlying science — for middle school science teachers preparing lessons and demonstrations, and for parents guiding their kids through experiments at home.

We believe experiments shouldn’t stop at “watching the teacher demonstrate” or memorizing conclusions. With the right method and proper care for safety, many of the key experiments can be done first-hand in a classroom, a lab, or even a kitchen — and doing one yourself once is often worth more than reciting it a dozen times.

So every guide we publish starts from a concrete phenomenon: first what to observe and how to work safely, then back to the textbook, connecting what you saw to the concepts behind it.

Our principles

Three small things we insist on.

None of them are complicated, but they decide whether an experiment guide can actually be followed.

Safety first

We clearly flag each experiment’s risks, the protective gear required and how to handle mishaps, and we remind readers that anything involving fire, electricity or chemicals requires adult supervision.

Explain the why

We don’t just list steps: we explain the physics, chemistry or biology behind what you see, and map it to the specific concepts in the curriculum.

Actually doable

Materials are as common and easy to find as possible, and steps are written so you can start right away — so teachers and parents alike can walk students through a successful run.

How we work

How an experiment guide gets made.

1. Choosing topics. We only write up the experiments that mainstream middle school physics, chemistry and biology curricula (such as China’s PEP and Jiangsu textbook series) actually require students to know and perform, plus topics readers send in through “Contact”. We don’t chase trends, and we don’t publish filler.

2. Doing it ourselves first. Every materials list, quantity and step in our articles is written down after actually running the experiment with equipment you can get at home or in a classroom — including which step fails most often and what a failed run looks like.

3. Mapping back to the textbook. Once the phenomenon is written up, we return to the concepts: which textbook section the experiment belongs to, how to state the conclusion, and where the common exam traps are. We avoid formulas beyond the middle school level wherever we can.

4. Building draggable simulations. Some experiments can’t be done at home, or need many runs before a pattern shows. For those we build our own drag-and-play simulations in pure SVG and JavaScript and place them in the article — all 27 interactive simulations on this site are built in-house, with no embedded third-party content.

5. Reviewing and correcting. We check every correction readers send after publication; confirmed errors are fixed directly in the text and the page date is updated. If you spot a mistake, please write to us.

MUXU LAB (Chinese name: 沐旭实验室) is the name of the site at muxukj.com. Every article and interactive simulation here is written, illustrated and proofread by our own editorial team and published under the shared byline “MUXU LAB”; we do not republish other people’s articles, and we do not accept undisclosed sponsored content.

Our contact address is chunli.sun@tjmuxu.com. It uses tjmuxu.com, the business mail domain we have long used — different from the website’s domain, but genuinely this site’s official inbox. Topic ideas, submissions, corrections and partnership inquiries are all welcome there; we usually reply within 1–2 business days.

The site is free to read, with no registration and no paywall; running costs are covered by the Google AdSense ads on our pages. Ads and content are always presented separately — we never change an experimental conclusion or recommend a particular brand of equipment because of advertising.
